Dublin, OH, June 2, 2016 – Central Oregon Community College (COCC) recently signed on with IGS Solar to install a solar energy system at the college’s Redmond campus, located 15 minutes north of their main Bend location.

COCC, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, contracted with IGS Solar, a turn-key commercial and residential solar provider, in an effort to better control their long-term energy costs. IGS Solar financed and will own and operate the 504 kW system, which will be installed and maintained by Sunlight Solar Energy of Bend, Oregon.

Once installed, the system will meet approximately 90% of the four-building Redmond campus’s annual power needs. “Our partnership with IGS Solar is a great example of a win-win that ultimately benefits our students.  This project confirms our commitment to sustainability while helping keep educational opportunities affordable,” said Matt McCoy, COCC’s vice president for administration.

Using a third-party ownership structure, IGS Solar provides a simple Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contract to help both non-profit and for-profit organizations avoid the financial strains often associated with solar energy solutions. This is the fourth educational facility that has signed on with the company to receive financing for a solar energy solution.

Patrick Smith, vice president of IGS Solar stated, “We are excited about the relationship we’ve formed with Central Oregon Community College, and are glad to play a role in helping them control their energy costs with solar. We look forward to being a long-standing sustainability partner well into the future.”

In 2016, terms of installed solar capacity, COCC’s home state of Oregon currently ranked 21st in the country, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). IGS Solar plans to further develop their solar footprint throughout the state.
